National Honor Society

The National Honor Society is open to all qualified students in grades 10- 12 who meet the requirements for membership outlined by the guidelines provided to us by the NASSP.

Decatur Jr. Sr. High School is part of the Decatur Public Schools system in Van Buren County. Our school is well known for innovative and engaging curriculum, outstanding facilities, and highly successful athletic teams. Our focus on multi-tiered system of supports provides the type of individualized quality education that can only be found in a small school. Decatur Jr. Sr. High School is very proud to offer:

  • A comprehensive dual-enrollment program in which many of our seniors graduate from high school with 24-30 college credits.

  • A wide variety of challenging courses such as AP Calculus, AP Statistics, and a series of Honors ELA classes.

  • Virtual programming for credit recovery and as an alternative education platform.

  • Highly qualified and caring teachers at all grade levels and in all disciplines.

  • Educational travel opportunities. Students have recently visited Florida, Boston, Chicago, and Washington DC. Students will soon be traveling to New York City and Alaska.

  • A variety of extra-curricular activities at the junior high (quiz bowl, science olympiad, robotics, student council, theater, gold crew, equestrian team, various athletics) and high school ( quiz bowl, science olympiad, robotics, student council, theater, national honor society, powerlifting, equestrian team, link crew, various athletics) levels.

  • A daily Pride Period for our students. During this time students who struggle in reading and math receive intensive and directed academic intervention.

  • A free universal breakfast for all students.

  • A variety of vocational and technical training programs at the Van Buren Technology Center.

  • STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) courses throughout the junior high curriculum.

  • Competitive sports programs that routinely win conference, district, regional and even state championships.

  • Successful peer to peer mentoring programs that provide emotional and academic support to all 6th and 9th grade students.

  • Daily SAT preparation courses for all of our 11th grade students.

  • Award winning marching and ensemble bands.

  • Participation in the middle college program which provides an opportunity for students to receive an associates degree free of charge.

  • Smart boards with projectors and sound systems in all classrooms.

  • One to one technology with new Chromebooks for every student.

  • Engaging, innovative, and technology-rich lessons across our entire curriculum.

  • CHAMPS classroom management system used in all classrooms leading to optimal learning conditions for students.
