Decatur Public Schools offers a Breakfast and Lunch Program for all students. The Food Service program is under the direction of Kyle Dumkow, who is employed by Chartwells Food Management Service a division of the Compass Group.

Decatur Public Schools bid out food service management and selected Chartwells from the returned bids. The Director and all staff members of the Food Service Department are employed by Chartwells.

You Must Create A Family Portal Account

1. At the Family Portal site, find your school and then click the Go button.
2. Click the Register button to set up an account.
3. For the Username, enter the email address you used for SendMoneyToSchool.com.
4. Accept the Terms Of Use and Privacy Policy.
5. Check your email for an activation link and click it.
6. Follow the instructions to complete the setup.

Your SMTS family members will transfer to your new account when you complete setup. In your email client, add the familyportal.cloud domain as a safe sender. Be sure to check your SPAM folder if you don't see the activation email.

Students with food allergies or sensitivities must be accommodated if we receive appropriate documentation. The attached form is a standard document supported by Michigan Department of Education's Nutrition Services division. Families requesting accommodation must complete this document AND have it signed by a Physician verifying the information. This is required. If no document is on file, we are not permitted to offer meal pattern changes to individual students. Why am I being asked to fill out this form?
Institutions or organizations who sponsor and operate a federally funded Child Nutrition Program must make reasonable substitutions to meals and/or snacks on a case-by-case basis for participants who are considered to have a disability that restricts their diet.* According to the ADA Amendments Act, most physical and mental impairments that substantially limit or affect one or more major life activities or bodily functions will constitute a disability.

Sponsors are not required to accommodate special dietary requests that are not a disability. This includes requests related to religious or moral convictions or personal preference. If these requests are accommodated, sponsors must ensure that all USDA meal pattern and nutrient requirements are met.

This form must be completed by a licensed physician, physician assistant, or an advanced practice registered nurse, such as a certified nurse practitioner. Updates to this form are required only when a participant’s needs change.

Note to Districts/Schools: Parents/Guardians may provide a written request for lactose-free milk without a physician’s signature. Lactose-free milk served must meet meal pattern requirements for the program.

Special Dietary Accommodation Form

Decatur Public Schools became a CEP (Community Eligibility Provision) district in the 2019-2020 school year.  As a result, we now offer a lunch and breakfast to all enrolled students free of charge.  Prior to that time, when payments were required and accepted, a meal charge procedure and negative balance policy was employed to prevent significant debt from accruing for students. 

School lunch accounts can be funded via https://decatur.familyportal.cloud, or by sending cash with a student.   It is strongly encouraged that parents/guardians make meal payments in advance in order to ensure students have funds available for purchases in the school cafeterias. Please remember that lunch account monitoring is the responsibility of both the parent/guardian, and the student. Parents and students may request account balance information anytime by contacting the cafeteria in your child’s building. You may also contact the food service office at 269-423-6811.

Elementary/Middle/High School (K-12)

• A “meal” will be provided free of charge to all students upon request

• Ala carte items may not be charged at any time

• Milk is considered an ala carte item (costing $0.65), and therefore cannot be charged

Should a student accrue a negative balance, Decatur public schools is committed to the following:

•  Prohibits students with a negative account balance to wear a wristband or handstamp

• Prohibits students who owe a negative balance from performing chores or other work

• Prohibits directing students to dispose of a meal or other food after receiving it because they have a negative balance

• Prohibiting direct communication with a student about a negative balance, unless the district has unsuccessfully attempted to contact the student’s parent or legal guardian first; through telephone, mail, or e-mail.

• Prohibits discussing of negative balance with a student in the presence of other students

Decatur Public Schools provides a FREE breakfast for all students. 

Davis Students are offered their breakfast when they first come to their classroom.  Middle and High School students have their breakfast after their first hour class.  The students are ready to eat and then can focus on their classroom studies.

Decatur Public Schools participates in the National School Lunch Program.  A stipulation of participation is to only offer “Smart Snacks” that fit the nutritional guidelines of the program.  Snack items are available in the JR/SR High Cafeteria daily at meal service times.  Below is a list of common items we are offering, and their pricing, in 2022-2023.  Please note, only HS enrolled students may purchase soda and sports-flavored drinks, per program rule.  Middle School students may purchase water or juice only.  Food items are applicable to both age groups.
